The Country of Contrasts

Namibia is a country in Southwestern Africa, bordered by the Atlantic Ocean. It lies between the Namib and Kalahari deserts and is one of the most sparsely populated countries in the world, with a population of just 2.5 million people.

The country is named after the Namib Desert, the oldest desert in the world, approximately 55 million years old, which is also listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The sand dunes of the Namib Desert are created by strong winds and are the highest sand dunes in the world.

In 1884, the German Empire took control of a large part of the country, and by 1904, it was recognized for committing a massive genocide.
